Clevis Bolt

A Clevis Bolt is a special-purpose hardware for use with applications where sidewise or shearing stress occurs. This special-purpose bolt is commonly used with guy wires, deadending conductors, and suspension insulators.

A Clevis Bolt has two main parts – a bolt section and a clevis. The bolt section has male threads and a nut. The portion extending from the bolt’s far end to the clevis’s bottom is the longest section of this piece of hardware. The clevis end has a machine bolt and a nut.

To use this product, a contractor has to drill a hole in a cross arm. Then, the bolt end with male threads is inserted into the hole and secured with the provided nut. Once that’s done, the tongue of a suspension insulator is inserted into the clevis and a bolt and nut are used to hold the tongue in place. Eyenuts and eyelets prevent the nut from dislodging.

The key application of this piece of hardware is the attachment of suspension insulators. However, it is also a crucial component in deadend applications.

A Clevis Bolt can function as a connector between a suspension insulator and a cross arm. It also allows for load transmission and articulation.

Frequency Asked Questions

What is a Clevis Bolt?

A clevis bolt is a distinctive fitting mostly used for shear loading in suspension insulators and deadending conductor applications.

Types of Clevis Bolts

Several types of clevis bolts are available. Each type has a diameter, length, thread length, and weight per one hundred pounds. The available types have the same diameter of 5/8 inches and thread length of 6 inches. What differentiates them is their length and weight. As far as features go, different types have different rated tensile strength

Components of Clevis Bolts

Six parts make up a clevis bolt. They include a bolt and a hex nut, a clevis, a cotter bolt and hex nut, and a cotter key. The bolt section of this product has male threads that are typically 6 inches long.

Features of a Clevis Bolt

To effectively resist shear and side forces, the product is made of heavy-duty steel. Additionally, the steel material is galvanized to increase corrosion resistance. Furthermore, the product is compliant with the standards of the communications industry and applicable electric utility industry.

What Accessory It’s Used Width?

It is used with more than one accessory depending on the application. They can include a cross-arm, suspension insulator, guy wire, deadending conductor, valve pistons, rods, and shafts.
